Originally, chip tuning involved physically removing the EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) chip from your vehicle’s ECU (Engine Control Unit). The new, optimized software was then programmed directly onto this chip on a specialized bench. This process of altering the standard software within the chip is what was referred to as “remapping.”
However, since 1996, OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) remapping has become the industry standard. This modern approach allows us to flash new software directly into your ECU via the OBD port, without needing to remove any components. This has made the remapping process much quicker and more efficient.
While OBD remapping is now prevalent, our expertise at GW Agri Ltd spans the entire spectrum of ECU technologies. We’re equipped to work with all ages of ECUs, from early models that still require traditional chip tuning methods (like some EDCs) to the most advanced modern ECUs with MD1 locked Tricore processors and tuner protection. No matter your vehicle’s age or complexity, we have the knowledge and tools to optimize its performance.
